Why are your prices so low?

There are two answers to this question the simple one and a more complicated one. The simple answer is that we are operating on the Internet and we don't have to pay the high overheads of the high Street, keeping costs low for you.

The more complicated true answer is that on the internet we can operate a different business model, in our High St practices due to historical reasons the optical industry has always charged a very low price for eye examinations approximately £20-£25, this has been due to the NHS. This is not the economic cost which is nearer £70. Therefore the cost of the optical product, the glasses, has subsidised the eye examination by over £50 (not everyone who has an eye test has glasses, pushing the subsidy higher). That is the reason glasses are expensive, you are paying the full cost of the eye exam on the glasses. So when you see the costs in the high street the optician is not overcharging, his marketing mix is low eye exam fee, high product cost.

So our business model enables us to provide you with glasses at the true market rate for the product. We hope you appreciate what we are trying to do.

Are your prescription glasses frames of good quality?

Yes. For the above reasons of our prices, our frames and lenses are exactly the same as what you would receive in our High St practices. We have been in business since 1882 we understand meeting peoples needs, our reputation is very important to us we will always provide high quality materials. If they are not you have our guarantee that we will replace them.

How do I get my glasses prescription details?

When you have your eye examination your optometrist is legally obliged to give you a copy of your prescription, ask if they have put on it your PD, this is not an obligatory requirement but is useful.

What if I don't understand my glasses prescription?

You don't need to understand it, just copy the details onto the screen as they are written on your glasses prescription, there is a help button on the form at this point to explain details about the prescription. If you wish you can either Post, Fax, or email your prescription to us. If you have a scanner then send us a copy of that It will be returned with your order.

What if my frames need adjusting when I receive them?

We will adjust them as well as we can when we send them out to you, but sometimes they will need a little subtle adjustment for you. We suggest that you go to a local optician; they may require a small fee to adjust them. You will have saved so much money with us it is probably worth paying this if necessary.
